How Do You Prove a PTSD Claim to the VA?

PTSD. What is it and how do we prove it? So, in order to win a PTSD claim, there really three things. Number one, we have to show that you have PTSD, that you have post-traumatic stress disorder. That’s going to come from obviously your doctor, right? That you’re treating with, you’re treating physician, you’re treating psychologists, treating psychiatrist, whether how it’s affecting your active daily living, right? though that you can’t get out of bed in the morning, you can’t brush your teeth, you’re not getting dressed, you’re having flashbacks, whatever the issues are that you’re having, your doctor has diagnosed you with PTSD. Two is we have to show that there was a inservice stressor. So while you were in service, there was an event that was considered to the level of something that would cause PTSD. And three is the link, the connection, causation. We have to link your PTSD to that inservice stressor.

And so that the reason you have PTSD is connected to the inservice event. That’s our job. That’s what we focus on. Number one is getting your medical records and making sure that you have the right documentation. Number two, that you understand the process. And we work to build that link to connecting that inservice event to your personal diagnosis. That’s what PTSD is and that’s how we do it.
