How Does the VA Evaluate Traumatic Brain Injuries?

So, how do you win your claim for a traumatic brain injury, often called a TBI? So, there really three things that we need to prove. Number one, we have to prove that you have or are suffering from been diagnosed with a traumatic brain injury. That obviously comes from your medical records, objective testing, special MRIs, blood markers, a number of different ways to prove that you have a traumatic brain injury. Two is we have to prove that there was a inservice event that caused your TBI. And three is the link, the causation between the inservice event, your doctor diagnosing you with the TBI, and that the current symptoms that you’re having for that TBI are linked to the inservice event. We can prove those three things, then you win your rating for a TBI, and often if you’ve been in combat service that qualifies, that can make it easier to prove.
