I had a catastrophic accident that changed my dream forever. I was a police officer for about seven years. I was responding to an officer needs assistance call and on my way there I was in a serious motor vehicle accident which catastrophically injured my back and ended my career as a police officer. Early on, I really knew that I wanted to have a life of service. I became an EMT at 16. My whole life is dedicated to service, from being an EMT, to being in the military, to being a police officer. That is really what determined what I knew my future was going to be like. And I started to pursue that career by going to college for criminal justice. But when my career ended as a police officer, I played the cards I was dealt. And instead of being a fed, I became a lawyer. After the car accident, I was in physical therapy for a little over a year. Three orthopedic surgeons said that I couldn’t return to work, so I’ve been working out my whole life to stay in shape. Knowing that I’m staying strong and I’m able to do the things that I need to do for myself, my family, my clients, really for life.
My friend who was in the car, we were driving, she was talking to me and she just said, they’re not stopping. They ran a stop sign. Huge impact. The process wasn’t a straight line or linear at all.
