Medical conditions that will be considered service-connected disabilities are those where your representative or yourself, if you’re doing this process alone, can prove that the medical disability arose as a result of your military service. So, it might mean that you were diagnosed in service, that there was some kind of injury, or perhaps an exposure that could have later caused a latent disability such as cancer. You could even point to circumstantial evidence to show that you were experiencing a stressor during your military service that could have later caused PTSD many years after service. There’s a combination of evidence that could be used to typically show this connection to service. It could be your own report of what happened to you, and it could also be consistent medical treatment that shows a continuity of your medical condition over time.
