So you’re in Boston, Massachusetts, and you’re involved in an accident in a rideshare. So the question is, is that different than if, let’s say, I was in my personal vehicle? The answer is yes. And so it’s interesting, under Massachusetts legislation, the amount of liability insurance that the rideshare has to carry is in stages, right? So when he’s not on the clock, he hasn’t started his shift, not working, he’s like a regular auto, it covers under his personal liability insurance. Once he’s on the clock and working, it starts at $50,000. It goes up to once he’s accepted a ride and he’s coming to pick you up or you’re in the vehicle, then there’s a minimum of $1 million in coverage. So you know there’s a lot of coverage if that ride share is at fault for the accident. Now, if another vehicle is at fault for the accident, that’s a totally different story. If the other vehicle’s at fault, then obviously you come under their liability insurance. But if you’re in a rideshare and the rideshare at fault, then there’s a million dollars worth of coverage to protect you. Other than that, things are pretty much the same. You want to make sure you dial 911. You want to make sure that the police come to the scene. You want to make sure that they document that you were in a rideshare vehicle and you want proof of that in the police report. You want to make sure that you save in your phone pictures that you ordered the rideshare and the vehicle of the rideshare you were in. If someone else ordered the rideshare for you, you want to call them and say, hey, I was in an accident. Do me a favor, take a screenshot and save that I was in the rideshare. And so as long as we can prove that you were in the vehicle, that the vehicle was working at the time as a rideshare vehicle, then you’re covered as long as we can prove that they were at fault for the accident and there’s a million dollars worth of coverage.
