So my clients often ask me how long it takes to settle their claim in the beginning of the case. It’s a very difficult question to answer. There are many factors that go into it. First of which is the length of which their treatment is. Because if you’re still injured, how can any attorney possibly tell you what your case is worth? They would actually be doing you a disservice to give you an estimate without fully understanding the extent of your injuries. So once you’re done seeing doctors, that’s when your lawyer will gather your records, gather your bills, put them together, review it with you, get your approval, and begin the negotiation process. Some people might need surgery. Some people may have a scar that could take months or even years to heal. Ultimately, some people may need surgery but can’t get surgery for various reasons that prevent them from doing so. In those situations, we can talk to their doctors and get a letter saying that they will need surgery in the future, if not now. So in the end, it really varies on the individual case itself, but you should be having that conversation with your lawyer who should be keeping you informed throughout the process, all of the length of time and the estimated time it takes to settle your case.
