If you’re bit by a dog, it’s hugely traumatic. The first thing you want to make sure that you do is call the police because you want the animal control officer to respond. It’s important that that dog is quarantined, especially if we don’t know if it’s had its shots, right? Whether or not it’s licensed is really important to get animal control on the scene because we need to figure out who owns the dog, where the dog lives, and to figure out if there’s going to be insurance coverage in order to protect you.
Obviously, you also want to call a rescue because if you bit by a dog, you definitely need to go to the hospital. Even if it’s a small puncture wound, it needs to be cleaned out thoroughly to make sure there’s no infection.
Generally, you don’t stitch closed dog bite injuries depending on how serious and how open the wound is, but you want to get checked out by a doctor.
