National Safety Blog Part 3 of 4: Slip & Falls
June is National Safety Month. The National Safety Council selected four important topics to discuss this month; emergency preparedness, wellness, falls and driving. Rob Levine & Associates would like to contribute to the conversation about these topics and give you helpful hints to avoid and address these situations.

In many cases, falls can cause serious injuries and even death. These types of accidents should not be taken lightly. Precautionary measures should be taken to prevent such accidents such as
- Watch where you are walking
- Keep walkways clean and obstacle-free
- Be aware of caution and warning signs
- Be careful around slippery areas such as showers, pools, and docks
- Use a flashlight to direct yourself in dark areas
Even with precautions, there is still a chance that slip and falls will occur. In these cases it is important to know what to do if you have been a victim of a slip and fall accident:
Check for Injuries
Many times, a fall can severely injure a person to the point where they should not get up right away. Test the severity of your injuries by slowly moving various parts of your body while remaining low to the ground. If this is not painful, try getting up slowly, but not too much to further injure yourself.
Get Help
If you cannot get up or are in pain do not push yourself or you could injure yourself more severely. If a phone is within reach, call emergency services, if not create attention for yourself by shouting, banging on walls, or setting off any alarms that are nearby.
Get Medical Assistance
Your safety and wellness is always a priority. Seek medical attention after any slip and fall incident. Often injuries such as these are healed through physical therapy.
Make a Report
If your accident happened due to someone else’s negligence, liability must be proven. This means that a detailed report consisting of a description of the accident should be created. Every detail counts, so the more information and witness testimonials, the more helpful the report will be.
